Equine Assisted Activities
Those unable to ride (or choose not to) can still benefit from our horses through unmounted equine assisted activities and therapies. Participants will gain confidence, improve motor planning skills, and increase functional abilities by interacting with the horses during structured groundwork activities under the guidance of qualified instructors.
The groundwork (unmounted) activities may include:
- Natural horsemanship
- Training techniques
- Long-lining
- Horse handling/behavior skills
- Grooming/brushing
- Caring for the horses
Equine assisted activities also provide a great option for riders who are confined to a wheelchair as they can still lead, train, and interact safely with an equine. Cost for the program is $30/lesson ($240 for an 8-week session), which is approximately 22% of the 'real' cost. The remainder of the cost is covered through generous donors, grants, and fundraising.
To get started, follow these simple steps:
- Download and print the Registration Packet, located at Rider Forms/Cost page.
- Fill out and sign the forms (parent and physician).
- Schedule a time to come to Ridin' High for a tour and informal assessment. This will help ensure that Ridin' High and your participant are a good fit.
- The staff will help find a weekly lesson time that fits your schedule. To secure the space, you will need to pay for the 8-week session ($240/8 weeks). We take checks, cash, and PayPal.
- Enjoy the benefits of equine-assisted activities!
